Gaddafi: when will he step down?

When a country or a nation suffers from natural calamities or man made destruction then the despot of that nation becomes heedless of his people. Rome was not built in a day. 2700 years ago near the banks of river Tiber its foundation was laid on seven hills. In 64 AD Rome was burnt. It is said that the Emperor Nero was playing on fiddle when the city was burning. This rumor might not be authentic or he was playing the fiddle when the fire was on a very primary stage but we have seen this of late that the president of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari was busy in shopping in London when his people faced worst ever flood situation.

Just few days ago we saw that when Libya is burning with civil war, Moammar Gaddafi or Moammar Qaddafi wearing his trademark sunglasses has been playing chess with the head of the world chess federation. He is trying to send the message to the world community that everything is alright. The tyrant Moammar Gaddafi is reigning over the Mediterranean country Libya for more than four decades.

Military coup in 1969

On 1st September 1969 a group of young army officers led by 27 year old Captain Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi took over the power of Libya and declare the abolishment of the pro west monarchy in Libya. It was a bloodless coup when the ailing king Idris was in Greece for a treatment at that time. The captain later promoted himself to the rank of colonel.

After taking over power Gaddafi emerged to the west as a principal financier of international terrorism. Tensions rose to the peak During Ronald Reagan administration between Libya and United States. Reagan declared him as ‘mad dog of Middle East.’

Gaddafi’s regime was well enough until a PAN AM plane exploded in the sky of Lockerbie, Scotland. Two Libyans were the prime suspects of planting a bomb on the flight. Gaddafi paid $2.7 billion to the 270 Lockerbie victims. After this compensation the relation got somewhat normalized with the west.

After 9/11 terrorist attack Gaddafi in 2003 announced to open up its weapon program to international inspection. He committed to fight against Al Qaida. This announcement of gaddafi was clearly to show fake sympathy to the United States as well as saving his leadership in Libya.

Now the situation of Libya is changing rapidly after uprising started in February 2011. Several top aides of Gaddafi have defected. Rebels have established their headquarters in second capital city Benghazi. They are pushing forward to capital Tripoli. Gaddafi threatened several times to dismantle the uprising with giving away the weapons to pro Gaddafi people to kill the defectors and protesters of his regime. Killing people is his ultimate resort. He killed dissidents around the world by his agents earlier. He directed his agents to kill the dissidents even they were on a holy pilgrimage to Mecca.

People were waiting for a chance. Seeing the success of Tunisian and Egyptian people they have gathered to oust the autocratic Gaddafi government. Their courage is so praiseworthy. For years people have no right to speak, no right to change their government, no right to assemble in that country. We, the peace loving people around the world are eagerly waiting to hear the news in the morning or in the midnight that the tyrant Gaddafi is ousted.

Thanks Dim. Dictators try to stick to the power to the last moment. They talk big but at last they flee or die.
